The social and solidarity economy (SSE) plays an increasing role in the modern world. The public policies of both developing and developed worlds try to incorporate the importance of SSEs in their realm to promote SSE in order to be beneficial for the citizens. The measures such as regulations, incentives, development programmes, and partnerships are on the anvil. Various studies highlight the issues concerning the effectiveness of public policy and institutions to promote SSE. The institutional ecosystem for SSE explains the importance of policy and the institutional ecosystem needed for SSE. The stakeholders include the types and range of private sector, state, and civil society actors. The ecosystem constitutes institutions, policies and processes; how it is established and improved; and what the key characteristics and policy areas (e.g., finance, market access, technology, know-how, political alliances and support, government incentives and regulations) and so on. It is in this broad background; this edited volume plays an important role and contributes to the literature of SSE across the globe. In fact, this book is an outcome of the activities of the DiSE (Diverse Solidarity Economies) Lab in the Department of Economics, University of Kerala.
