Description

Amidst the debates surrounding the various new models and paradigms that the new National Education Policy 2020 envisages, there is also a need to understand the larger education scenario that the nation is presently unfolding and the extant to which the present policies and programmes are addressing the long-term education related goals and targets of the MDGs and SDGs launched at global level. This book, Education in Contemporary India: Sociological Discourses is an effort to study the system of education in India in contemporary context by using sociological lens. Sociological theories and pers are very helpful in unfolding the intricacies of any layered phenomenon in its best suitable contextual framework. This book is organised in four sections and each of these explain some important dimensions of the state of education in India. This book would certainly meet the needs of students, research scholars and teachers coming from different disciplines of Social Sciences and Humanities including Sociology, Social Work, Women Studies (Gender Studies), Education, Anthropology, Cultural Studies, and General Studies. Going beyond the academia, this book would be helpful even for the social activists, professionals and other stake holders to have a comprehensive framework to systematically and scientifically assess the achievements of the past so that they can play their due role in building the future.
