Description

The book “Deprived - Chronic Poverty:A Gender Perspective” is the outcome of continuous discourse between the plight of women’s oppression, subjugation, deprivation, exclusion resulting poverty and the strong intent to understand in-depth the root cause and to find a solution to up-root the cause. This book reveals the hopes and despair of women in poverty, the burden of challenges of being poor in patriarchal society and also to establish multiple linkages between women’s disempowerment andchronic poverty. Her research work on inter-generational transmission of poverty resulting in the impoverishment of their children is extensive piece of work for policy making. Itis recognised that by removing barriers of deprivations and bridging the awareness gaps in different domains of life will bring perceptible difference in the lives of poor. The Author also recommends various measures which can generate the forces such as “Anti-drivers, Anti-maintainers and Active-interrupters” which will addressthe challenges of women’s empowerment across countries. Moreover, it touches upon unaddressed multi-dimensional grievances of persistent and abject poverty which is getting transferred from older generation to the younger ones.sddsd
