Bhaswati Khaund Goswami did her Masters in Ancient Indian History from Delhi University, India, in 1991 and works as Communications Officer in the Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research (C-NES). She is part of its Programme Management Unit (PMU), edits the Northeast File - a C-NES publication - a compilation of newspaper clippings and articles from across the region on a range of issues, issues press releases, develops its online newsletter and also liaises with corporates in fund raising.Her writing, including human interest stories and travelogues, has been published in newspapers and magazines including Travel Plus.
Sanjoy Hazarika is the founder and Managing Trustee of C- NES. He is currently also Director of the Centre for North East Studies at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, where he holds the Dr. Saifuddin Kitchlew Chair. Additionally, Mr. Hazarika is Chairman of the Governing Board of the Society for Environmental Communications which publishes Down to Earth magazine. An authority on North East India, he has made a series of documentary films on the region and travelled extensively across it and its neighbourhood. A former correspondent for The New York Times, Mr. Hazarika is the author of several books including the acclaimed Strangers of the Mist, Rites of Passage and Writing on the Wall. He was a member of the first National Security Advisory Board (1998-1999) and a member of the advisory panel (North East) for the National Commission to Review the Working of the Constitution. He is an Executive Board member of Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative, member of IIAS, Shimla, the visitor's nominee to several Central Universities in the North East, Trustee, National Book Trust among others. He is also a columnist for The Assam Tribune and writes regularly for The Hindu and The Hindustan Times as well as other media and is frequently interviewed on television and radio on the NER.
