Description

This edited book is an outcome of two days national conference held at Rajdhani College, University of Delhi under my convenorship on the topic Uniform Civil Code: The Way Forward. The conference was sponsored by the ICSSR, New Delhi. The delegates and scholars from several parts of India joined the conference and shared their research, ideas and thoughts. The collection of articles has a very wide range i.e., from constitution, governance, environment to gender issues etc. The issues discussed and deliberated upon gained high acclaim and appreciation from participants and audience. The constitution of India is the source of all the rights and duties. It has the two core areas: Constitutional Rights and Directive Principles of State Policies. The genesis of the idea of Uniform Civil Code lies in the parliamentary debate in the Constituent Assembly of India. Upon a unanimous agreement, it was placed under article 44 of the constitution of India. Since India is heading towards achieving new height in the international arena, the society also needs to change its value system to maintain the pace with the modern world. The sphere of personal relations is also changing day by day. Uniform Civil Code is not new to the nation but a lost tradition in few decades of last century. Recently, U_arakhand has become the first state to introduce the law to enforce the idea of uniformity for all the citizens living in the state.
